As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord ´
“Igniting soul’s through the proclamation of Jesus Christ”.
Fourteen years later I went up again to Jerusalem, this time with Barnabas. I took Titus along also. I went in response to a revelation and set before them the gospel that I preach among the Gentiles. But I did this privately to those who seemed to be leaders, for fear that I was running or had run my race in vain. Yet not even Titus, who was with me, felt compelled to be circumcised, even though he was a Greek. This matter arose because some false brothers had infiltrated our ranks to spy on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus and to make us slaves. We did not give in to them for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might remain with you.
This is an activity for all to enjoy and learn in, write as well as read. We call this "Weekend Scripture Share", as you will clearly see why. What we would like everyone to do is to post any verse or portion of the Word from your Bible. Along with the portion of Scripture you may place thought, comment, or question. The post does not need be long or short, can be one verse and simply said, "my favorite". Please do share with us and leave the subject line, or write in “Weekend Scripture Share”. For the weekly edition of “Tuesday Scripture” and “Weekend Scripture Share”, I had been composing through the Spirit as I study, verse by verse, or portion by portion, from the Book of Galatians. I am now beginning the second Chapter in the Word.
Galatians 2:1-5, “Then fourteen years after I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and took Titus with me also. And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that Gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain. But neither Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised: And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage: To whom we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you.” KJV
In Medieval times few common people learned to read. Followers of Christ went to Church to hear God's Word read aloud in Latin. The Priest then presented its meaning in the language of the listener. John Wyclif (1380) led a group of scholars in a first translation of the Bible into English. His efforts were considered heresy because he wanted to allow the common man to be able to read God's Word personally. Religious leaders had a stake in keeping the Word of God from the common man because it gave them power over their parishioners. Many died at the hands of the established church (Not Church) before the common man was allowed to have a personal copy of God's Word written in his or her language.
Today a similar, though less bloody, struggle over the Bible ensues. Some feel modern translations are inherently evil. Such demand that there be no other Bible available than the King James Version condemning all that disagree to hell. Modern translations simply carry on the tradition of making God's Word available in a language easily understood by the reader.
Jesus Himself started the process of bringing God's living Word to the common person. He was put to death for claiming to be God and rose from the dead proving His identity as God among us. Jesus the Christ is the Living Word of God. His words are made available to all who seek Him for a relationship with God and a new life in Him. After Christ rose the Jewish Law was fulfilled by His final sacrifice for the sin of mankind.
The Apostle Paul lived out Christ's Word with great sincerity and zeal. "For me to live is Christ and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21 He rejected the legalistic bondage imposed by Jewish Religious leaders and ultimately paid with his life for his actions and beliefs. After serving Christ for fourteen years he addressed an issue of legalism still haunting Christian's. The tradition of circumcision, cutting off the foreskin of the penis on the eighth day after birth, had its roots in ancient times. God commanded that all men be circumcised because of the journey through the wilderness to the Promised Land. Paul believed that this practice was not a requirement any longer because sanitary conditions were greatly improved. He left the decision up to each individual whether to be circumcised or not. A controversy over this arose and Paul met with Christian leaders to present his case which was accepted.
Anyone who may be moved in the spirit to respond or blessed to participate please feel free to do so. The point of these two weekly activities have been directed and set up by God to fellowship in the Word and learn from one another. I am not a teacher in the Word, nor Pastor, but a Brother in the Family of God and called to His fellowship. I make mistakes and certainly may not see something in the same way as you, therefore always open to corrective criticism so long as it is spoken in the Spirit and conforms with the Bible which I believe to be the Living Word of God.
Love in the Lord
