Knowing God's Will

Know His will, and approve the things that are excellent, being instructed
out of the law. -Romans 2:18

The law is our instructor-it teaches us God's will and enables us to explore
the secrets of nature as well as the meaning of life. The law is a record of
inspiration from God, and not a single sentence is based on human will. This
we accept, not by scholarly rationale, but through faith and divine
revelation.

Whoever knows God's will can discern between what is right and wrong, what
is just and unjust. Proverbs 9:10 tells us, "The fear of the Lord is the
beginning
of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." If we do not
know God or His will for us, how can we have the wisdom to discern right
from
wrong? "'For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,'
says the LORD" (
Isa 55:8).
Since God's thoughts are higher than human thoughts, His standard for right
and wrong must also be higher as well.

God instructed Saul to annihilate all the Amalekites along with their
belongings. Saul used his own standards and kept the best oxen and rams as
sacrifices
for God. Samuel told him, "To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed
than the fat of rams" (
1 Sam 15:22).
Our Lord Jesus told His disciples that He must suffer in Jerusalem and be
beaten and killed. Peter said, "Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not
happen
to you." Jesus said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are an offense to
Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men" (
Mt 16:22-23).
God's will is very different from human thinking.

The Lord said, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge... Because you
have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children" (
Hos 4:6).
May God give us a heart that desires His laws. May He help us to have a more
profound understanding of His divine will. Let none of us perish for lack of
knowledge, for we must all remember God's law and glorify His name. Amen.

How can you come to a better understanding of God's will?

When you are at the crossroads of life, how do you determine which is the
right way to go?

Our greatest freedom is freedom from sin.
Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the
liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free,
and be not entangled again with the
yoke of bondage.
