New Church Begins in Guaratinguetá
by J. Randal Matheny

São José dos Campos, SP (BZEAL)– A new congregation was
begun in the city of Guaratinguetá on Sunday, November
13, after four people were baptized into Christ.

After months of teaching, Jorge and Paula Santana saw family
members put on Christ. They had traveled weekly to their
hometown from São Paulo, over a two-hour drive, to teach
Paula’s family and other interested friends.

After the baptisms, done in a child’s pool in the back yard
of Paula’s parents’ house, a period of worship was held in
her brother’s house the next street over.

Those baptized were Sr. Benedito, Paul’s father who is 79;
Wilson and Fatima, Paula’s brother and sister-in-law, and
their daughter Bianca.

The Guaratinguetá church is the third in the Western Cone
region of São Paulo state. The area has a population of four
and a half million. The other two congregations are located
in São José dos Campos and Taubaté.

Present for the worship service, besides the Santanas and
those baptized, were Paula’s mother, dona Cecilia; Wilson
and Fatima’s 18-year-old son Clayton; Lourdes, neighor to
Paula’s parents; Wilson, Bete, and Alexia Cardoso, of São
José dos Campos; Clayton and Valeria da Silva and their two
children Tiago and Luiza, of Taubaté; Randal and Vicki
Matheny and their two children Joel and Leila, of São José
dos Campos.
