COUPLES PONDER MARITAL COMMITMENT
by J. Randal Matheny
2007 February 13

BELO HORIZONTE, BRAZIL (AN)- More than 40 couples
converged February 10th on the Contagem church's new
building to consider the importance of marital
commitment.

Randal and Vicki Matheny spoke to separate men's and
women's groups for more than an hour at the third
meeting of the newly formed Couples League.

Area churches noted a high rate of separation and
divorce among Christians. Several Christians decided
to begin the league as one effort at divorce
prevention.

The invitation to speak came from Alexandre Magalhaes,
one of the men who began the Contagem congregation.

The Contagem church is located in a suburb city of the
greater Belo Horizonte area.

The metropolitan area has about 1,300 Christians,
according to missionary Eddison Fowler.

The event's organizers encouraged the participants to
share in the teachers' travel expenses, and a
spontaneous offering covered the cost of the Mathenys'
airfare from Sao Paulo.

Gustavo and Elisa de Oliveira, of the Contagem
congregation, hosted the Mathenys for the weekend and
provided them a car for transportation.

The Mathenys have been missionaries in Brazil since
1984 and worked in Belo Horizonte from 1984-1994. They
now live and work in Sao Jose dos Campos, in Sao Paulo
state.

Pictures and personal reflections of their trip to
Belo Horizonte can be accessed at these links:
