Vicki and I went Tuesday June 12 to Cabreuva, a two-hour drive from SJCampos, for a board of directors meeting of the Christian Children's Home. The Home is making good progress under the directorship of Maciel Vieira. After I had asked previously about progress in church contributions, Maciel reported in this meeting that from 2005 to 2006 Brazilian churches and individual Christians raised their contributions 90%. Though I can't account for all the reasons of such a huge increase, we do give thanks to God for seeing this great increase in interest and commitment by the Brazilian church. More on that meeting on my blog: http://www.randalmatheny.com/blog/journey/vicki_and_i_wen.html * GIRLSPEAK. Vicki and Leila did a great job speaking on modesty at the women's retreat last weekend in Belo Horizonte. Read more on that and background here: http://www.forthright.net/final_phase/when_at_first_you_dont_succeed_1.html * JOEL'S TROTTINGS. After his campaign in Belo Horizonte, Joel is visiting us here. He went to camp June 7-9, during the Corpus Christi holiday, with the Ipiranga congregation. The previous weekend he visited friends in Sao Paulo and worked with underprivileged kids Sunday June 3 at the Monte Azul church. * BIRTHDAY BASH. Leila's 15th birthday is Saturday, the 16th. We're expecting 60 people for the cookout and ceremony. Joel put together a DVD presentation of Leila's photos. If you'd like to wish Leila a happy birthday, write to me at jas@... and I'll print it out and include it in her memory book. * MICAH'S MARKS. Micah has been attending the Henderson, Tenn., congregation while living there for the summer and working in Jackson. He, Valerie, and another FHU student will work in two Christian camp sessions here in Brazil in July.
