Randal Matheny On most of my trips to other cities, I speak at a single event or teach a single seminar at a congregation. My most recent trip September 6-10 to the state capital of Salvador, in the Northeast, included three separate seminars. Friday: Servants' Regional Meet Instead of the four planned classes, I gave five. I'd done some extensive study on the event's theme, "The Potter and I," so I shared that material with the group as well. Some 40 men were present from several congregations, including three from another state who came just for the weekend I was there. The invitation to speak came from Arthur Barbosa, evangelist at the Cajazeiras congregation, who was in charge of planning this year's event. I taught the seminar, "This We Believe," in Cajazeiras in March. Usually the brethren have many different speakers for this event, but with my long-distance trip there, they gave me the lion's share of the speaking responsibilities. Only one other brother gave one class. This event was dedicated to the Christian worker's relationship with God. Saturday: Bonoco Church This was my third time to speak at the Bonoco church in the last four years. The first two trips I taught the "Total Transformation" and "This We Believe" courses. This time I shared with them the seminar, "The Jesus Brazil Needs." The seminar presents an initial lesson on "The Jesus Brazil Knows," showing wrong or distorted pictures of Christ. Then five lessons present him, according to the Scriptures, as Lord, Savior, fullness, wisdom and example. Sunday: Itapuan Church On my first visit to the Itapuan church, begun by brother Jose Antonio Zara de Paula, I taught the Bible class and preached in the morning meeting. We had lunch together and then at 1:30 p.m. I continued to speak on the theme, "The Necessity of Obedience for Salvation." We stopped around 5 p.m. Still Chipper Usually, a seminar in another city leaves me wrung out and hoarse, but, perhaps thanks to exercise and prayers, I returned home on the 10th in good shape. ----- BZeal rejoices in the progress of the gospel in Brazil and around the world.
