A NEW COUPLE FOR THE KINGDOM

Paulo is 49. Socorro is ... a bit behind him in
age. As Christians they wanted to marry someone
who was obedient to Christ.

Last night, after years of waiting, they did just
that.

Paul is from SJCampos. Socorro is from
Pernambuco, a state in northeastern Brazil. They
began writing each other through a "friendship"
ministry begun by Christians.

The friendship developed, and Socorro moved here
to SJCampos to see where the relationship would
go.

For a while the relationship cooled. Then
recently it all came together.

I was honored to perform the religious ceremony
last night as a couple hundred family and
friends looked on.

Early in the day, Vicki and I had served as
witnesses in the civil service.

We salute this couple whose desire to marry a
Christian bore fruit, even in a challenging
situation where the options aren't always
plentiful.

As a pleasant addition to the moment, Paulo's
parents celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary (date: September 14). So I did a
"double ceremony," as dona Carmita walked down
the aisle. More later on the story of their
marriage.
