<BrethrenVoice> 31 May 2002 NEEDING GUIDANCE? Connie Giordano Have you ever been in a situation where you didn't know what to do? ...you didn't know which way to turn? ...you came to a fork in your spiritual road and both directions seemed to be the right way? Perhaps you are in the Valley of Decision right now. The Good News is that God's Word promises help. God promises to lead us, teach us, counsel us, and cause us to know the right way to take. Here are a few of His Precious Promises for those who are in need of Divine Guidance - Psalm 5:8 - "Lead me, O LORD, in Thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make Thy way straight before my face." Psalm 25:4-5 - "Shew me Thy ways, O LORD; teach me Thy paths. Lead me in Thy truth, and teach me: for Thou art the God of my salvation..." Psalm 27:11 - "Teach me Thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies." Psalm 32:8 - "I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which Thou shalt go: I will guide thee with Mine eye." Psalm 143:8 - "...cause me to know the way wherein I should walk..." First of all, we see that God promises to lead us. There are three basic things that He leads us in - His Truth, His Righteousness, and a Plain Path. "Lead me in Thy Truth" - David prayed that God would cause him to go in the way which He regarded as Truth. He prayed that God would bend him toward the reliability, firmness, stability, and divine instruction of His Word. For anyone needing Direction, the Word of God should be the first source to rely on for instruction - Psalm 119:105 - "Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." David was fully aware of his enemies who were constantly observing him and seeking occasion against him to cause him to halt. They were harsh and cruel and sought to overcome him. They laid snares and traps for him to oppress him. He prayed two separate prayers - Psalm 5:8 - "Lead me, O LORD, in Thy righteousness because of Mine enemies..." Psalm 27:11 - "...Lead me in a plain path because of mine enemies." Because of his enemies round about him, David earnestly petitioned God for His Guidance. "Lead me...in Thy righteousness" and "Lead me in a plain path" seem to be two separate prayers, yet they are saying the very same thing. "Lead me in Thy righteousness" - Conduct my way into the manifestation of the principles of Righteousness. Govern me or transport me into truthfulness, rightness, and virtue. "Lead me in a plain path" - Bring me into the way of plainness, the straight or smooth path, the level or even place, and the path of righteousness. It is interesting to note that righteousness is a "plain path." Psalm 5:8 - It is a way made straight - even, level, or smooth - by the Lord. God also promises to instruct the Child of God needing Direction. David prayed in Psalm 27:11 - "Teach me Thy way, O LORD..." In Psalm 25:4 he prayed - "...teach me Thy paths." Then in Psalm 32:8 we read God's beautiful promise to all - "I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go..." David desired for God to "teach" him. He wanted Him to direct, instruct, point out, and show him the path which he should take. He looked to the Lord for understanding, insight, and information as to which course of life or mode of action he should choose. Psalm 32:8 - God promises all believers that He will guide us with His eye. Psalm 143:8 - He will cause us to know the way wherein we should walk Psalm 25:4 - He will shew us His ways. In other words, God will counsel us with a watchful eye over our every step. He will cause us to hear His leading for the right and safe way that we should take. He will cause us to know, distinguish, and discern the course of life or the mode of action that He has ordained for us. Are you unsure of your next step? Are you afraid of falling or failing? Are you apprehensive about what the future holds for you and your family? Be encouraged, O Saint of God! God promises to lead you, teach you, and guide you. Proverbs 3:5-6 - Your position is to acknowledge Him in all your ways. He will direct your paths. He will make them smooth or straight. Do you feel the breath of the enemy as he relentlessly pursues you and observes your every move, wanting you to halt? God promises to lead His dear children into His Righteousness and into "plain paths" where there is sure footing. Come under God's government. Follow His paths, His ways, and His Truth. Let the government of your life rest upon His shoulders. Trust the Lord Jesus today. He will not fail you. He will instruct you and teach you. He will guide you. That's a promise! May God Bless His Word. Connie ______________________________________________________________________ ["EXAMINE YOURSELVES WHETHER YOU ARE IN FAITH."
