Coffee Break
"Change Of
Scenery"
"For I am the Lord, I change not..." Malachi
3:6a
After we got back home last night, I was
thinking about how amazing it was that just that morning we were in a
completely different area. The terrain was mountainous, rocky, boulders
cascading over the road, deep valleys, tall trees, running streams filled with
people fishing and rafting down the rapids. Now, several hours later
I was back home in an entirely different scenery. No white water rapids,
no winding narrow roads, no signs warning of fallen rocks... just flat wooded
area. The scenery was totally changed. I awoke to one scenery that
morning and went to bed to a completely different one that
night.
Upon pondering this, my thoughts turned to
life. Life is often like my day had been-- full of change. Each day
the "scenery" may start out looking one way, then change and look
completely different. We might wake up to happiness, peace and joy, but
before the day is over we might find ourselves in grief, heartache and
despair-- or vice versa.
Abraham woke up in his father's house but was going
to a new place to live before the day was done. Joseph got up one morning
to go find his brothers and wound up in slavery before night fall. David
left his father to take provisions to his brothers in the army and wound up
slaying a giant before he got back home. Saul went out to look for
his father's donkeys and came back a king. The three Hebrew children woke
up one morning as usual but wound up in a fiery furnace before the day was
over.
Who knows where we might find ourselves-- in what
type of situation, circumstance, or trial-- before the day is over.
The "scenery" can often change, and change quickly. Sometimes we are
prepared for it, sometimes we aren't. But there is one thing that we can
be assured of, God is still the same no matter what the "scenery" of our life
might be. Like the song says, "The God of the mountain, is still God in
the valley". He is still the same whether you are facing good or bad;
rough or smooth; light or dark; the mountain or the valley. He's God when
you wake up in the morning and He's still God when you go to bed at night...
even if it's in a completely different change of scenery.
Have a great day. When you go to bed tonight,
it might not look the same as it did when you woke up this morning... but God
will still be the same.... no matter what the "scenery".
