With interest, I read the piece about the hymn, "Precious Lord". I was quite surprised at the author, Tommy Dorsey. My interest was piqued; so, I did a Google search for "Precious Lord" + "Dorsey". As it turns out, the hymn was written by Thomas A. Dorsey; but, he's not the famous bandleader. The story is true, as written by Mr. Dorsey, who also went on to write other hymns. "Precious Lord" is notable because Dr. Martin Luther King requested that it be sung (at a rally, I believe) on the very day he was assassinated. President Lyndon Johnson requested that it be sung at his funeral. To cross-check my new-found knowledge, I also did a Google search for "Precious Lord" + "Tommy Dorsey". That search confirmed that Thomas A. Dorsey and Tommy Dorsey were, in fact, two different people, who happened to share the same name. It is a touching story, nonetheless. SHALOM! Tom
