Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, Regarding the call to the Bible-based duality of holiness and brotherly love in the Anglican church as the basis of Christian unity, I didn't find any one document that brought it all together succinctly, like it was in the Pope's recent Apostolic Letter. But, of course, both of these concepts can be easily seen in the Church of England cannons, and especially the Ecumenical Cannons, although I don't pretend to know them well enough to use them intelligently as a source. Still, here are a few Anglican references that I found on the Internet that, I think, show in just a few places that they well recognize the importance of both holiness and brotherly love to Christian unity. Here is a cut from one such reference, from which I've excerpted the following quote, and url link (EMPHASIS MINE): >'This Synod affirms that the biblical and traditional teaching on chastity >and fidelity in personal relationships is a response to, and expression >of, God's love for each one of us, and in particular affirms: >1. that sexual intercourse is an act of total commitment which belongs >properly within a permanent married relationship; >2. that fornication and adultery are sins against this ideal, and are to >be met by a call to repentance and the exercise of compassion; >3. that homosexual genital acts also fall short of this ideal, and are >likewise to be met by a call to repentance and the exercise of compassion; >4. THAT ALL CHRISTIANS ARE CALLED TO BE EXEMPLARY IN ALL SPHERES OF >MORALITY, INCLUDING SEXUAL MORALITY, AND THAT HOLINESS OF LIFE IS >PARTICULARLY REQUIRED OF CHRISTIAN LEADERS.' And as far as the Anglican Church seeking to unite in love with Christians of all ecclesial communities, it is easy to see this in the mission statement of such ecumenical groups as the following, in which the C of E actively participates. This is the Constitution of the ecumenical group called, "Churches Together In England": >CHURCHES TOGETHER IN ENGLAND unites in pilgrimage those churches in >England which, acknowledging God's revelation in Christ, confess the Lord >Jesus Christ as God and Saviour according to the Scriptures, and, in >obedience to God's will and in the power of the Holy Spirit commit themselves: > to seek a deepening of their communion with Christ and with one > another in the Church, which is his body; and >to fulfil their mission to proclaim the Gospel by common witness and >service in the world >to the glory of the one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
