Promise Keepers has canceled plans to hold
rallies at state capitals across the United States on New Year’s
Day 2000. The men’s ministry is worried about Y2K problems
associated with large gatherings, the Associated Press said.
Police in several states said they were concerned about "too many
unknowns connected with Y2K," Promise Keepers spokesman Steve
Chavis said. Members of Promise Keepers are being encouraged to
stay home with their families on New Year’s Day. The Y2K problem
may occur because some computers may malfunction Jan. 1 when they
assume it is 1900.
