Greg Slade's Help Page

Here is a brief explanation of the navigation graphics which you are likely to encounter on this site. Note that most of the navigation buttons also have text equivalents at the bottom of the page on which they appear.

[Home] This graphic leads you to my home page. Links from my home page lead you directly to all the major sections of the site, with the exception of the Bookdex, which is only accessible from the Books page.

[Books] This graphic leads you to my Books page, where I discuss some of my favourite authors and their works. From the Books page, you can also proceed to the Bookdex, which provides links to all my book reviews, including not just those on the Books page, but also in CAMsoc Update, my computing newsletter, and in the Christian Computing Bibliography. Most of the reviews lead to links to Amazon.ca, Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, or ChristianBook.com, where you can buy the books reviewed.

[Computers] This graphic leads you to my Computers page, which has information about my computing interests and opinions, as well as links to resources which I consider to be of particular interest, like the Christian Macintosh Users Group.

[Christianity] This graphic leads you to my Faith page, where I talk about what I stand for. This page has a link to my statement of faith, and also contains some information about my church, as well as links to the larger bodies of which my church is a part.

[History] This graphic leads you to my history page, which details the changes in all my web sites. If you want to know what is new on my web sites, I list changes with the most recent changes at the top of the list, so this might be a good page for you to check from time to time.

[the Joker] This graphic leads you to my humour page, which discusses some of the CDs, books, and web sites which make me laugh, and points to funny items discussed on my other pages.

[the Music Fan] This graphic leads you to my Music page, where I discuss some of my favourite music. Most of the reviews lead to links to Amazon.ca, Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, or ChristianBook.com, where you can buy the CDs reviewed.

[Opinions] This graphic leads you to my Opinions page, which in turn leads to a whole collection of essays on assorted topics, mostly related to Christianity, but also including collected editorials on computers and technology drawn from CAMsoc Update, my computing newsletter.

[About Amazon.ca] This graphic leads you to an information page about Amazon.ca, of which my assorted pages form an associated book store. From the information page, the same graphic will link you directly to Amazon.com itself.

[About Amazon.com] This graphic leads you to an information page about Amazon.com, of which my assorted pages form an associated book store. From the information page, the same graphic will link you directly to Amazon.com itself.

[About Amazon.co.uk] This graphic leads you to an information page about Amazon.co.uk, of which my assorted pages form an associated book store. From the information page, the same graphic will link you directly to Amazon.co.uk itself.

[About ChristianBook.com] This graphic leads you to an information page about ChristianBook.com, of which my assorted pages form an affiliated book store. From the information page, the same graphic will link you directly to ChristianBook.com itself.

[On to Home Page] For the most part, this site is designed for you to wander about freely, browsing whichever topics interest you. However, on some sections of the site, one page leads naturally to another. In those places, this forward arrow will link to the next page in the series.

[Back to Home Page] On those same sections of the site where one page leads into another, this backward arrow will link to the previous page in the series. (In this particular case, this button, like the ones immediately above and below, will take you to my home page.)

[Up to Home Page] More commonly, I will have pages which are similar in content, but not necessarily in a series, all linked from a common page, like my Opinions page. From each of those linked pages, you can return to the linking page by pressing this up arrow.

The graphic above isn't a navigation graphic at all. It's simply a line to separate sections on each page. It's sufficiently goofy-looking to appeal to my sense of humour. If this web site were more serious, I would have used a horizontal rule instead, like this one:

The following graphics all lead you outside my personal site:

CAMsoc Update This graphic leads you to the site for CAMsoc Update, my computing newsletter. The site has the current issue online, and back issues right back to the first issue. (Which first appeared on paper, not electronically, but I have put it in to web form for historical reference.)

Christian Computing Bibliography This graphic leads you to the Christian Computing Bibliography, which is an annotated list of books and periodicals related to Christianity and computing. The reviews are partly drawn from CAMsoc Update, and partly provided by my brother, Robert.

Christian Telecommunications Toolkit This graphic leads you to the Christian Telecommunications Toolkit, which is a guide for using electronic communications for Christians. It features explanations of various methods of electronic communications and directories of Christian BBSs, Discussion Areas, Ministries which use electronic communications, a bibliography, and a hyper-linked glossary.

Computer Aided Ministry Society This graphic leads you to the home page for the Computer Aided Ministry Society, which is devoted to helping Christians use computers and technology effectively. CAMsoc Update, the Christian Computing Bibliography, and the Christian Telecommunications Toolkit are all ministries of CAMsoc.

[Computer Re-use Optimisation Project] This graphic leads you to the Computer Re-use Optimisation Project (CROP), which is a collection of resources designed to encourage the practice of donating used computer hardware and software to charities, and especially Christian ministries.

[Computing and Christianity Web Ring] This graphic leads you to the Computing and Christianity Web Ring, which is designed to provide a quick and easy way for users to find resources on the web applying specifically to the use of computer technology by Christians.

Member of the Christian Macintosh Users Group. This graphic leads you to the home page for the Christian Macintosh Users Group, of which I am a member. I have found CMUG extremely helpful in getting the most use out of my computer.

This site was created with a Macintosh computer This graphic leads you to the home page for Apple Computer, makers of the Macintosh, which is what I use for designing all my web pages, as well as all the other computing work I do. (My computer, which I have named "Tertius" after Romans 16:22, is a Microsoft-Free Zone.)

using PageSpinner Web creation software. This graphic leads you to the home page for Optima, the company which puts out PageSpinner, the software I use for creating all my web pages. PageSpinner is a wonderful program which is only available for the Macintosh. (Heh, heh, heh...)

This site is browser neutral. I attempt to make my sites as browser neutral as possible, so that they will be readable and navigable by any web browser, even text-only browsers such as Lynx. This graphic leads you to the home page for the "Campaign for a Browser-Independent WWW."

This site has been tested for HTML compliance with iCab. This graphic leads you to the Let iCab Smile page. iCab is a new web browser for the Macintosh which has a built in HTML-checking feature. When you point iCab to a web site which complies with HTML specifications, a "happy face" appears at the end of the location bar. If there are HTML coding errors, the face frowns. I am currently redoing all my pages to make iCab smile. If you find one of my pages which makes iCab frown, please let me know.
