Joe,
Perhaps in the 2nd edition rulebooks you could have some sort of
"Optional Rules", sidebar(s) for such considerations (some of my favorite
Role-Playing-Games do this). Thus you could make a strong suggestion to the
game master, without making it an absolute. I myself prefer to keep power
levels low in a troup (and thus making the characters more human).
I was wondering, is their a system for the growth of talking animal
companions? I mean, say you have a talking giant Eagle with a party for a
long period of time, and through many adventures, wouldnt that character
grow in some way? Perhaps learning a new language, or perhaps getting
really good at estimating ground troop types from great heights, etc, etc.
Well just a thought.
