1978 was the date Egypt signed an agreement with Isreal, recognizing Isreal
as having the right to exist as a nation. It was signed at Camp David (Camp
David Peace Accords? Don't know, before my time.) The Arab world hated the
leader of Egypt for doing such a thing (he was evenutally assassinated for
his part in the signing.) What can I say, they have long memories.
