Bondage Versus Freedom

If you had a choice between political bondage or political freedom, which would you take? The answer seems obvious, but are you happy with your current political situation? If you had a choice between personal bondage or personal freedom, which would you take? Again, the answer seems obvious, but are you happy with your current personal situation? 

Israel did not like bondage, but they did not like freedom either! Three days after their escape from Egypt, they found no water and complained against Moses (Exo 15.22ff). They journeyed further and on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departure from bondage (16.1), the people complained again against both Moses and Aaron (v. 2). Listen to their complaint, "Oh, that we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat and when we ate bread to the full! For you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger" (v. 3). They could not find happiness or contentment with anything. They did not like living in Egypt, but they did not like traveling in the wilderness on the way to their own land. Israel became impatient, leading them to complain. The problem was not Moses and Aaron, nor was it the Lord, but it was Israel. 

If you cannot be made happy, whose fault is that? If you cannot find contentment, does the problem rest with God?
