Do Not Fear the Established People
By Don Ruhl

To engage in warfare, what does a nation need? That nation certainly needs an established infrastructure to support the military. Yet, Moses reminded Israel of their wilderness wanderings and said, "Then we turned and went up the road to Bashan; and Og king of Bashan came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei" (Deu 3.1). An established nation confronted the wandering nation of Israel. Typically, we would say that Israel would not have a chance, nevertheless, Moses continued, "And the LORD said to me, 'Do not fear him, for I have delivered him and all his people and his land into your hand; you shall do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon'" (v. 2). Regardless of Israel's situation, the nation had nothing to fear when confronted by a well-established nation. Why did Israel have nothing to fear? The Lord said to Moses that Israel did not have to fear because the Lord had delivered that established nation into the hand of Moses and Israel.

Listen, if the Lord is with you, you have nothing to fear. Period.
