> Rev & Dear Father+: In fact there was an attempt to enter a dialogue
with the Orthodox Church in America by the old ACC under their Bishop
Thomas Kleppinger some years ago but apparently nothing of substance
came of it. If I recall aright this may have been in part due to the
lawsuit that split the ACC in two. Orthodox are very leery of the West
but the OCA is the most open in my experience but they are experiencing
their own problems (ethnic issues tec) and do not want to add too many
burdens. There are some Western Rite Antiochian Orthodox Churches (one
in Denver that I know of-one of their communicants came to the parish I
serve while her husbnad was stationed at Fallon NAS here in NW Nevada
and another in the San Francisco area I am told). The new Pope is trying
hard to bring everyone on the same page:This week he had a 4 hour dinner
meeting with Hans Kung SJ the controversial German theologian who was
expelled from the Catholic Theological Faculty at the University in
Tubingen. I am told the meeting went well. Earlier in the month the new
Pope also had a briefer meeting with the Superior (Bishop Fellay) of the
Society of St Pius X. I do not think that one was quite as cordial but
still positive. The recent writings of Cristoph Card. Schonbrunn OP who
is the Editor of the 'new' Catechism of the Catholic Church and
Archbishop of Vienna on creation thories and interpretations was/is
another effort to bring some focus and balance. Finally (whew!) there
was an Old Catholic group here in North America that was received into
the Orthodox Church about 50 years ago en masse. They seem to have
adopted the Eastern rite in toto. Will you please remember 'ad altare
dei' James H. who is an old and dear friend. He has been fighting cancer
for some years and holding his own but this week discovered it had
re-appeared. In such cases I believe we should (as the late Archbishop
of New York once said) work as tho it counted on us alone and pray as
tho it counted on God alone. Let us be about our Father's business.
Blessings. GDVW+
