No, it isn't Elvis dancing, its the political pirouette. When the Bru-Ha-Ha erupted around Trent Lott’s unfortunate statement (second time in 20+ years), I determined to make no comment on it because it was obviously a sin of the mouth or head, and not the heart, as his few friends attested. I think it positively slanderous that the Dems are playing the race card in the face of an administration that has C. Rice and C. Powell out front. Hillary Clinton makes no points with me by accusing the Republican party of playing the race card, while she obviously thinks she has the right to do so. Everyone makes misstatements on occasion, and I thought it best not to pile on, since the target was too easy, and most charges were likely unfair. Besides, with friends like his in the Senate, House, and Whitehouse, he didn’t need any innocent bystanders adding to his woes as there were plenty of long knives in the hands of his peers. Republicans were fleeing the scene of the verbal crime as quickly as possible leaving Mr. Lott as exposed as Bathsheba’s spouse when his supreme commander pulled back the troops. Politico’s on both sides of the aisle should reflect on the lack of forgiveness and loyalty in the public arena. Bill Clinton allegedly had the words “It is the economy stupid” on his mirror while running for President the first time. Everyone in elective office should keep that motto in front of their eyes and realize it is actually two declarative statements. Bill thought it was one statement, and this led to his downfall. Al Gore didn’t get it at all. Nor did the hapless Trent Lott. There is no sanctuary left in this country. No place of repentance exists in this avowedly secular society. We needn’t wish Trent, “Lots of Luck,” because a senator’s pay is not all that bad and his family owns a lobbying business in Washington that will bring in many shekels for years to come. This is a win-win situation for both political parties as both have opportunities to woo the minorities critical to success in a country so evenly divided between the two parties. It is a win-win situation for all minorities, as both Republicans and Democrats can now be counted on to send more dollars their way in an attempt to buy their votes. In this season we should be charitable, as I suspect we all have a LOTT TO LEARN and we shouldn’t shoot the piano players, they are doing their best. Once again, mea culpa for viewing the high campy posturing by both parties as hilarious.
