I have known others who went to the area as strong supporters of Israel and returned shaken by the poverty and mis-treatment of the Palestinians. Some problems seem insoluble. Its easy for us to say the choices are the righteous Reign of God or Armegeddon, but the devil is in the details. Since Israel, backed by the U.S. hold the military power, it is up to the leaders of those two nations to come up with a political messiah of sufficient humanity and mentality to find the way to peace. Obviously it is impossible for the Palestinians to exist peacefully in a situation where unemployment runs 70% and where they are prisoners in their own homes. Less repression than that caused our own founding fathers to revolt two centuries ago. No amount of wall building by the Israelis will assure their safety in such a sea of poverty.
