Interesting question and as yesterday's correspondence
shows, there are a variety 
of answers.

Thinking about it again, part of the problem is in the
way we perceive the question.  
If this question were asked at a time of grave
tensions between Russia and the Vatican, we would
likely get a polically inspired answer.

If it were a question coming at a time of relative
peace, in which there were hopes that their would be
reunion we might get a different answer.

It wasn't so many months ago that JPII and the
Orthodox Patriarch were sailing around the
Mediterranean in the Love Boat.
