> Frater: Packer is a Puritan who loves jazz and has quite a disc
collection. Several years ago when I was in Vancouver BC he was at
Regent (a real piece of work is that place but they keep the bills paid
and the hall full). I found him to be rather silly and was fascinated by
his feet (he and I share long feet but that is the only thing in
common). He's past his sell by date but his DPhil from Oxford was a
cachet much beloved of the Neo Puritan crowd. Given the Puritan view of
sacraments and priesthood his views on priestesses are not surprising.
Luddites (usually yars behind the times and off the radar)will do
anything to destroy the Church! Blessings. GDVW+

The things he's ranting about aren't even a blip in the radar screen in
> the
> overall problems of Anglicanism today. The issue today is authority: By
> what authority does the Church promote the things it now promots
> (homosexual
> blessings, etc)? That's the real issue in the Anglican Communion today:
> authority.

> But here's an ironic twist: several years ago in an interview with
> Christianity Today, Dr Packer admitted that he thought it might be proper

> ordain women. Now, for someone who's so committed to Sola Scriptura and a
> 16th century understanding of the Christian faith, and in light of the
> clear
> teachings of Holy Scripture regarding an all-male ministry and how those
> teachings were clearly understood in the 16th century, by what authority
> does Dr Packer promote women's ordination? Hmmm????
