I'm thinking some very public apologies need to be made by some folks who
made some very public uncharitable comments about Dr Packer.

Well this is very encouraging indeed! Fr. Derrick had mentioned to me the
other day that it was pretty old and on a website of a group I've never
heard of. It is pretty amazing that someone in just about any church would
write something like this and put someone name on it! As someone has said,
maybe a common enemy. At any rate I am very happy to know that Packer did
not write the article. But it just occurred to me that this was on Virtue's
website. Wonder where he got it and how did it get on his site with JI
Packer's name on it?

Statement from the Rev. Dr. James I. Packer Vancouver, British Columbia,
Canada August 24, 2007
Regarding the article, ³Anglicanism: Protestant and Catholic, August 15,
2007²
This piece is not by me. It contains information, which was new to me.
Its
source is identified as the Protestant Alliance, a body with which I have
no links and of which I know nothing. It has apparently been on the
Internet for a number of years anonymously and to have my name attached to
it with the date, August 15, 2007, is, simply, a mistake.
The views expressed do not match my present attitude towards
Anglo-Catholics in the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Church of Canada.
I ask that no one be misled into supposing that this piece, which clearly
was written by someone in the Episcopal Church, is connected with me in any
way.
