Some will recognize my droning: Writing is the very worst way to communicate about things that matter, are tender, emotional, inflamed, difficult, complex, or otherwise important. The written word tells us little; it tells us something but a mere minimum. So much of what we depend on for meaning is absent in written words: 1. Affect 2. Demeanor 3. Body language 4. Eye contact 5. Facial cues 6. Gesture 7. Intonation 8. Volume 9. Emphasis 10. Inflection 11. Speed I can learn a little about someone by reading what they write. I bring only myself to the process of interpretation. I will learn more about them if I listen to them. But if I really want to know what they mean I go speak with them in person. If we can not meet in person we should call. If we cannot meet or call then........................................ I suppose we must write.
