Charles+, As I know he is no huge fan of Schweitzer's take on Paul as sort of the failed apocalyptic teacher--I think Wright was simply trying to express how important Schweitzer's search has been to Pauline scholarship, especially in looking at Paul from a non-Pauline perspective. What I find interesting is that he doesn't discuss pre-20th century Pauline scholarship, except for Luther a little later. I think his book would have been stronger for discussing Luther's and Calvin's take on Paul, as their thought has so dominated Protestant Pauline theology. Mark+
