Fr. Michael and other Padres+ Lets revisit the reason for not sending long attachments, graphics and pictures on the faithandlife list. Also I had requested that the messages be sent in "text" or "ascii" mode instaed of mime or html. There are some of our number who are using the email only terminals with limited memory capacity. The way these messages are read is somewhat like the old teletype machines. If the messages are sent in plain text, the likelyhood is that those email terminals will be able to handle what is sent in its entirety. If a photograph is sent, or the letter is sent in mime or html, the memory of those devices will be exceeded. If the message is received at all, it will likely be truncated. So to accomodate everyone, the best policy is to keep it simple; use text message and skip graphics and pictures. Pictures may be sent, but out of consideration to your brothers, please put PICTURES in the subject line, and perhaps even send an email in advance saying "PICTURES NEXT." This will alert those with email machines to not download those messages. Also, if messages are sent in MIME or HTML formats, the code that is generated by these systems generate many times more pages of print than the plain text system when downloaded to the printer. I have experimented with the results by setting my internet browser to download mime and html to text and send it to the printer. There may be as much as a full page of code ( garbage, unreadable symbols) to only a few lines of readable information. So by not sending pictures and grapics (unless we warn in advance), and by using only text mode, we are saving forests and many dollars in paper costs for those who dowload everything to the printer. We can also help by cutting off most of the letter to which we are replying, and just send along a few key sentences from the previous message as we reply. Fr. Michael, I would like pictures, but you might shade your tonsure a bit so as not to blind us. I understand there will be sunshine tomorrow. Blessings on all and enjoy yourselves this weekend.
