My family (the part that was not in Scotland) was Abolitionist and Unionist during the war you cite). I gave up on the two main parties and am now a member of the Constitution Party. The soul of our nation is at stake and most don't have a clue. Lord have mercy upon us! Kenneth+

My political views tend to be skeptical to the point of being anarchist; I'm not very thrilled with either of the major parties the last two years.

I'd be happy to give up my Yankee credentials and join y'all south of the Mason Dixon in order to battle for states rights. Dig up your confederate money and lets re-fight the War for Southern Independence. Federalism and the location of power in the hands of the alien city of Washington has gone too far. I think some of the reasons for the original Declaration of Independence obtain in our present day.

I will settle down eventually and read the text of the decision, but if the Media is even 10% correct in its initial reporting, it seems to me that the Supreme Court has made it difficult for a State to pass legislation for the protection of the health of
its citizens. The Court has done this with the justification that the state has no right to infringe on the privacy of what passes between consenting adults. It is peculiar that in the last two years the government is free to check on my communications, expenditures, and many other private transactions, but inhibits the states from legislation that, if inforced, could serve as a warning about the devestation AIDS brings to a person's life, and perhaps make some inroads on the spread of this disease.

The Roe vs. Wade decision was badly written and based on no science. This decision, which the majority opinion declares is congruent with earlier decisions, shows a lack of concern for the health and welfare of the people it claims to liberate as well as of society at large.

What social or individual good can come of overiding the wisdom of the States in these matters? Why would Texas or any other state want a repeat of the experience of the Haight-Asbury section of San Francisco?

You can count on it, within the very near future the court will render a similar decision in regard to marriage laws, using the argument that people of the same sex in committed relationships should have the same rights in regard to taxes, transfer of property, etc. as heterosexuals enjoy. Such a roll over by the Supreme Court would save the Gay/Lesbian forces from having to fight the battle in each of the States.
Having tasted victory today, you can bet they will soon try.
