Why do people suffer?  Why is there evil in the world?

The entire Bible is an answer to those questions.  

A shorter version is found in this quote from one I do not know: Rainer Maria Rilke 

"And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday
far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it, live your way into the answer."
      
That answer fits rather well the Proper 17B from Deuteronomy 4:1-9.

Combining Deuteronomy with R.M. Rilke's quote we get:
Live, keeping the commandments; make them known to your chldren, and the answers will come.
