Internet service is a little better today, but still
spotty.

Fr. Mark published a hilarious one liner that arrived
at only one out of four mail boxes I am monitoring
this morning. I can see no pattern or reason for
successes and failures.

Apparently the gremlins are still sabatoging some mail
systems. Mark's mail arrived only moments after his
posting at one box (Yahoo) and never arrived after 45
minutes at Lycos, Address.com or Juno. The really
weird thing in regard to Juno was that
a reply that I sent to Mark via Yahoo's email system
arrived very quickly at the Juno mailbox, but Mark's
original has yet to make it.

I suspect that there are still slow downs at the
Associate.com server.

The FBI has identified an 18 year old as the source of
the Sobig virus that has been causing the net problems
for the past couple of weeks. He will be taken into
custody today.

Keep up the virus protection as careless emailers will
be sending that worm around the world for weeks to
come.

Only 2 times during the last month has my computer
been under attack. Both times the antivirus system
alerted me to the situation and prevented the
intrusion. One of these events came as a result of my
agreeing to print out tax forms for a friend. The 3
1/2 floppy disc had a virus on it that my firewall
turned away.

Keep that antivirus system working 24/7, and don't
assume that floppy discs or cds are virus free. Keep
your fire wall working at all times as well as a
scanning system that inspects everything coming in
from the net. Scan all media such as discs and cds
before using them.

Apparently the hackers (mostly 'teeners) take special
delight in sabatoging email lists that have religious
content. The Lectionary list and other study groups
were passing around viruses recently that had
attachments advertising porno sites. Yahoo Groups and
similar services were particularly vulnerable as most
of the lists are easily accessable.
