The joint press conference between our president and
the prime minister of the UK against the backdrop of
the blasting in Turkey is a sobering reminder of evil
at work in this world.  

As we approach the holy days in which we are reminded
of the coming of Light into this world, today’s events
and the challenges to the Kingdom presented in other
areas of our society remind us of the importance of
the Gospel. 

The struggle is as old as Eden.  “If you do well, you
hold your head up; if not, sin is a demon crouching at
the door; it will desire you, and you will be mastered
by it.” 
(Genesis 4:7)

Whether the challenges come to us in the form of
culture wars or the maiming and killing of people, the
urgency of our Lord’s charge that we are to be salt
and light is apparent.  The message Light in this
darkness must be heard.  “In him was life, and that
life was the light of mankind.  The light shines in
the darkness, and the darkness has never mastered it.
. . .The true light which gives light to everyone was
even then coming into the world.” 
(John 1:4)
