Fr. Duncan+ We've had one discussion about the Great State of Texas back in August when I was in Dallas. I'm still a bit skeptical about the legendary tree; most of the vegetation I saw were no more than bushes. But you, being a man of the cloth and all, having said there is a tree in Texas, I reckon I'll have to take it on faith. I'll cede you the point that the rest of us are Texas wanabe's. The influence of TV and Movies is so strong that here in Ohio it is not unusual to see men wearing stetsons and boots. I have an imitation leather belt I'm rather fond of that has imitation silver embelishments all around that reminds me of my early interest in cowboys. You could enlighten us about what is big in Texas now. One of my hopes and dreams is to visit Texas again. If that happens, I don’t want to run afoul of Texas laws. With your back ground and expertise, perhaps you can help me. I noted in my research of Texas law that there are some rather peculiar pieces of legislation in regard to the consumption of alcohol. Has there been a problem in Texas in that regard? For example in LeFors it is illegal to take more than three swallows of beer while standing. Does that mean that one should immediately assume the usual cowboy prone position after opening the bottle? Wouldn’t there be a danger of choking while trying to drink lying down? Another peculiar law is this one in Lubbock County where it is illegal to drive within an arm's length of alcohol - including alcohol in someone else's blood stream. Does that mean there are no designated drivers in Lubbock, Texas? And also, I'm curious about some laws I heard of. Are these for real?
