As you can see, Friday funnies are a bit late. My mind was tangled up in sermons, attempting to buy a house and other things. All that seriousness darned near did me in. I don't think I smiled all day.

But this is a new day and I will be glad in it. This morning I was thinking of stories; some that may appear in a future homily.

It is tough to say things in new and striking ways.

How many times have you heard or read the story about the wise men who were trying to describe an elephant? Some thought it a wall, others a rope, etc.

How many times have you heard the description of man by Shakespeare, “What a piece of work is man. . . . how like a god!” Shudder, I think I used that one at synod. Mea culpa.

Here is a description of man you may not have heard, and may find useful in a homily. Let me know if it works out should you try it. You might call it, “a blind elephant’s view of mankind.”

Six wise, blind elephants were discussing what humans were like. Failing to agree, they decided to determine what humans were like by direct experience.

The first wise, blind elephant felt the human, and declared, "Humans are flat."

The other wise, blind elephants, after similarly feeling the human, agreed.
