> Dean Scott: I shall be in Vancouver for Epiphany and I will check this out. It is interesting that the half dozen parishes in the Diocese of New Westminster that have been 'licensed' to perform 'Ingham Unions', the parish St Paul's West End (a very nice parish by the way)located in what would be called the 'gay' neighbourhood of Vancouver is not among them. > I had a long talk with one of the Vestry of that parish when I was in Vancouver last spring doing research at UBC/VTS and he told me that St Paul's was quite traditional in many ways and that there were mixed feelings about the whole thing. In the course of the conversation it came out -in that nice Canadian way of doing things-that a good number of the homosexual community who attended St Paul's ( about 40% of the 'hard core' would be 'labelled' 'gay') could care less about an Ingham Union. You will not find that blasted across either the Advocate magazine (Their photo spread of +V.G. Robinson shows he has exquisite taste in vestments by the way) or most of the other spcialised literature. What this all comes down to-once again, just as in 1977, is the issue of 'getting in line' with the latest party doctrine. Pseudo liberals like Ingham and ++Frank 815 will forget the C & C even exist EXCEPT when it comes to whipping Anglo Catholics and other traditionalists 'into line'. Perhaps instead of calling +Nova Westminsterensis 'Scrooge' (a fellow I've always liked for a look at Victorian history shows him to have been somewhat other than he is portrayed in endless films) the monniker 'Stalin' might be more accurate. Happy Christ-Mass and Boxing Day too!
