Not really. I usually find that when someone asks me for a recommendation
of a Bible translation it's b/c they've been reading their Bible but want
something that their current translation doesn't offer.
Most of my post-charismatics miss the KJV but don't understand it that well
if it's not read aloud. This says more about the teaching of Dick-and-Jane
non-phonetic reading than about Xtn devotion.
A lot of them used to use the Living Bible; so I've at least weaned them off
that. What I like to do is point out to them good things about two versions
and encourage them to pick btw. them for personal reading.
My biggest concern has been getting them to read a Bible that's, well, the
Bible.
