Mike+,

Here is my reply to your survey. I have read with interest the various
responses with regard to the versions or translations that most people are
buying or reading. As I am back teaching freshman Zoology at Ohio Northern I
am amazed at the level of illiteracy amongst this current generation (18-21
year olds). Using simple terms like ratchet or keel to explain how something
works or the shape of the sternum in birds I was met with a series of blank
stares (or should I say blanker than normal!). When I asked if anyone in the
class knew what a ratchet was, no one raised a hand. Same result for keel!!
I am convinced our young people are not reading nearly as much as students I
taught even five years ago. It is a limited sample, I will grant you, but I
really did not expect to spend my time explaining what I would call everyday
objects that I am using to enhance the understanding of the function of a
biological component or process. BTW in the recent midterm exam I had a
student ask the meaning of the term "inclusive"! All this to say, I am not
sure what any future versions will look like! I am afraid that the KJV may
well be beyond most of this and future generations. Take comfort guys many
of these students are in Pharmacy so they will be handling our prescriptions
in just a few years!! Better just check how many mg. you are supposed to be
taking of that drug before you pop that pill!!

Blessings,

David+ H.
