Two New Dioceses Vote to Associate with Network
Archbishop Akinola Pulls Out of Annual Meeting
RELEASED MARCH 4: Network Shapes Structure and
Strategy Two More Dioceses Vote to Associate with Network
The Dioceses of San Joaquin (California) and Springfield
(Illinois) have formally associated with the Network of Anglican
Communion Dioceses and Parishes, commonly known as
the Anglican Communion Network.  San Joaquin and Springfield
join the Dioceses of Pittsburgh, Fort Worth, Rio Grande
(Texas and Arizona), and Central Florida in associating with
the Network.
At the Network’s Organizing Convocation, held January
19-20, 2004, bishops and representatives from twelve dioceses
voted to approve the Charter for the Network (to read the Charter,
please go to www.americananglican.org).  Dioceses have sought
final ratification by their respective legislative bodies, as appropriate.

Primate of Nigeria Pulls Out of Joint Meeting of ACC
and Primates
Source: The Church of England Newspaper
March 4, 2004
Attempts to pretend that it is business as usual for the
Anglican Communion were fatally undermined this week as
the Primate of Nigeria pulled out of one of its routine annual
committee meetings.
Archbishop Peter Akinola refused to attend the annual joint
standing committee of the Anglican Consultative Council [ACC]
and the Primates’ Meeting because of the presence of two
American members, the Rev. Dr. Ian Douglas and the Presiding
Bishop of the United States, Frank Griswold.
The Archbishop maintained that to attend the meeting
would be to give legitimacy to the Episcopal Church of the
USA which he maintains, in consecrating a practicing
homosexual bishop, has broken communion with the Anglican
world.
The Archbishop, who also chairs the Council of African
Provinces in Africa, has led the hard line against the
consecration from the majority of Anglicans on the continent.
In a statement emailed to the Anglican Communion Office in
London last week, he said that he would not sit at any meeting
with representatives of ECUSA.
