Satan & the "child" is what could be called an "anti-madonna & child". Satan
is mocking Mother & Child. He is holding the antichrist. It is in keeping
with the theme set up in Gethsemane when Jesus stepped on the "seed" of the
serpent  in fulfillment of Genesis 3.15.

Regarding the children, they are the demons that torment Judas to suicide.
Note how they just vanished once he was "committed" to killing himself,
indicating, artistically of course, that they weren't real kids, rather
demons in his mind and soul.
