Blind and Toothless Two tribes who share the same DNA, revere Moses and call Abraham their "Father" continue to kill one another over a few square miles of "holy" land. TV watchers around the world have been treated to the sight of a wheel chair bound Moslem "holy man." Then we see the remains of the wheel chair minus the man after he was visited by a missle launched by the Israelis. Supposedly there are only 3 of eight Hamas leaders left. Once these are blown to kingdom come, then peace will reign and Palestinians and Israelis will be able to co-exist peaceably. Cut off the head and the snake will die is the presupposition. With no snakes, we will have Eden. That scenario seems doubtful in view of an event that happened earlier. A 10 year old Palestinian boy was given a bag full of explosives to deliver to a person on the Israeli side of the border. The bomb, to be set off remotely by a cell phone, was discovered at a check point. Then, instead of taking the child into protective custody, the Israelis sent him back across the border. What are the chances that the martyrdoms will cease? What are the chances, having seen the crumpled wheel chair and the deprivation of people on the Palestinian side, that the lad or another won't be back? There are likely more 10 year old Palestinians on one side of the wall than cruise missles on the other. Both they and cheap plastic explosives are plentiful. The main players on the Mideast scene claim to be followers of a revealed religion. But whether they be Jewish, Moslem, or Christian, none seem to have figured out that acts of war don't bring peace. The Versaille Treaty didn't signal the end of the Great War in Europe as affairs there hadn't really been equitably settled. WWII inevitably followed. Now it seems that the First Great Crusades are being being followed by Great Crusade II. A half century ago newspapermen wondered about the possibility of a "pan-Arab" nationalism arising as a result of the creation of the State of Israel and the occupation by Western forces of Mideastern lands. We may be seeing the beginning of such an event. Affairs have not been settled equitably and killing snakes does not appear to be the answer. Charles+
