Brothers+ Speaking of "The Passion," below is an e-mail that a friend of mine forwarded to me. Both her uncle and her father berate her for being involved in the Church, and this in spite of them both being "cradle Episcopalians" (neither of which believe much of anything). Anyway, just thought you might be interested in seeing the "persecution" that some of our flock are subject to, even from immediate family. This one is from her uncle (I've edited her name out to protect her anonymity). ========================================================== Went to see the Jesus flick last night because Barbershop II has gone away already. It may be the silliest movie I've ever seen. [Name], you didn't miss anything by walking out--smart move--it never got any better. The violence didn't bother me, just thought it was silly porno--it took them about ten or twenty minutes to decide to punish him and then the other two hours were nothing but beatings and torture, with slow motion, extreme close-ups of the spikes going in, blood spurting out, etc., no wonder that actor said it took him seven hours to get the makeup put on. The good guys were all good and the bad guys (Jews) were really bad--ugly, with scowls on their faces like the old stupid pirate movies. I think Mel Gibson must be one of the all time greatest con men, no way he could have gotten away with all that if it hadn't been about Jesus. I can't imagine even the most ignorant of the Christian people taking that thing seriously and not seeing it for what it is. ================================================ No comment even needed.
