Your comment reminded me of an incident when my girls were in grade school.  

They mentioned some school wide emphasis regarding the environment.

After listening to their rather excited chatter I asked, "Would you like to do something for the environment?"

The good little soldiers were in a noble mood and said, "Yes.  What can we do?"

"Clean up your room" was my response.

"Awww DAD!"

So much for volunteerism.  These campaigns seem more glamorous when done on someelse's turf, preferably by someone else and at government expense.
