Brothers+ Serendipitously I came across “Subversive Spirituality”, a book by Eugene Peterson sometime professor of Theology at Regent College in Vancouver. This little joyful surprise came about as I was searching my home library for a book to pass along to a friend as a token of appreciation for his helpfulness this past year. This particular book I had not opened, probably due to the title and my preconceived opinion that I already knew what it was about. Though I liked Peterson, I never got around to reading this particular book. In order to assure myself that it would be a gift that I would not be embarrassed to give, I decided to read a chapter or two and found myself smiling and feeling joyful. The book will be a source of inspiration and challenge to my friend. I will buy another copy and re-read it next Advent to serve as a reminder to me as to what a Christian and a priest should expect and be. You may have read other things from Peterson; he has been writing for over a quarter of a century. I recall being challenged by some of his work in the past. I commend this one to you at this season of the year. In another post, you will find some excerpts. SUBVERSIVE SPIRITUALITY Eugene B.
