MOST SUCCESSFUL POPULIST PRESIDENT IN HISTORY? George W. Bush may be the most successful populist president in history. The press pundits ascribed high marks to Bill Clinton in this regard, but I think GW is more than a match for Bill. Could Bill C. have gotten by with the worst econcomy in over 2 decades, a questionably successful war against terror, invading the social security "lock box", running a massive deficit, and spending the surplus running up the national debt again? Could Bill C. have been at the helm when these things happened and still get a 70% approval rate? GW has out politicked BC by a long way. Further, G W has launched a successful pre-emptive strike against the Democrats in November. There was no need to wait for an "October Surprise", he did it in August and September. GW has successfully silenced the Democrats in regard to any opposition in regard to his revolutionary First Strike doctrine. This is now an official part of our foreign policy and even the Senate Leader apparently will not challenge the idea. Tom Daschle seems to be willing to let that usurpation of authority go by in hopes Iraq War II will be "off the table" and Democrats can run on a less politically ruinous platform of "Its the Economy, Stupid" come November. Its a vain hope, for who is caring about the economy at his time? The dogs of war are running loose with no opposition, and the people of this country are following the hounds.
