Brothers+ For many days CSPANN has broadcast hearings regarding the closing of military installations. Perhaps the tragic circumstances on the Gulf Coast will lead to a reappraisal of the suggestions put forth by the efficiency experts. It should be readily apparent that it would have been helpful to have more, not fewer helicopters, all terrain and amphibious vehicles readily available to succor those stranded on roof tops and in remote areas. On Tuesday morning, 20 helicopters were called in to assist in evacuating those in urgent need of medical care. Obviously this was not enough. This morning I heard a report that amphibious vehicles were going to be sent in from California and that the airforce was sending in helicopters. This is the third day after the event. Those stranded in attics and those in the super-dome will have at least another day to wait before those vehicles can arrive and be deployed. Considering the number of illegal immigrants and the continued probablility of natural disasters on our coasts from earthquake and storms, this appears to be the time to strengthen rather than diminish our military.
