As I understand it, we are currently limited to utilizing MacTCP from FB.
Open Transport requires that we can use shared libraries, which I guess
we can not do with FB. That said, most code written for the MacTCP API
will work fine under Open Transport.

You will want to go to http://devworld.apple.com and get the MacTCP SDK
for instructions on the MacTCP API.

You will probably also want to look at the Internet RFCs for information
on how the TCP/IP protocols work.

I have a project that has never really been completed that utilizes
MacTCP. It is a BootP server, which utilizes the UDP protocol, not ICMP.
However, I used as my starting point the FBFinger program that is (was?)
on the unofficial FB site, and it utilizes TCP, not UDP. I was able to
successfully port the functions from TCP to UDP, so going to ICMP should
be possible. If you are interested in this project, please email me
PRIVATELY and I will send it to you. It is much too large to post to the
list.
