Excuse me, but we have enough "old timers" on this list to pose a question for which I
have been pondering the answer for YEARS and YEARS!

Sometime - probably around 50 years ago - I read a Science Fiction novel in which the
most important person in the society - the one elevated to the status of "KING"
(though they used a different name) was the individual who could come up with a
Question that had never been asked before. This, of course, because the knowledge base
of the society had been computerized and, I now realize, they could SEARCH for
PROBLEMS and discover the "SUPPOSED SOLUTIONS". The story had a real neat twist,
though I cannot remember what it was. I've mentioned this, in passing, - the Story not
the neat twist - in several contexts over the years, never able to provide the proper
credits.

Any one recall such a novel/short story? AND YES, I DO have better things to do!  *-}
