stumbling from sleep... with my daughter pulling my arm because she wants a
bowl of hot chocolate...
The FB-Euro group is currently trying to see what it can do! Here's what's
been happening:
- Alain is translating _all_ manuals to French (helped by Guy and Jacques)
(This is probably the equivalent of translating Gibbon's 'Rise and Fall',
or Proust's 'A la recherche.." *while* the author is writing the book!)
as he is doing this he is correcting errors, asking for clarifications,
finding missing keywords, suggesting additions... there is an on-going
dialogue with Staz on certain points even!
IMVHO (and gnomes do have VHOs when they are pressed by daughters at
unearthly times of the morning) printing out manuals at this point is
_premature_, as Staz has not yet reacted and incorporated all the info
into the eDocs.
- The FB-Euro group is discussing with Staz the modalities of distribution
of FB^3 in Europe. As this is currently an on-going process it is
difficult to be precise: we have a firm intention on _our_ part to do
things right for FB, and a gentlemen's agreement at the moment (the
gentleman being Staz, of course). We met with Chris Henkel (from Germany)
Friday to discuss this, and the question of the UK came up:
If they buy direct from Staz then they'll get import duties on goods,
if we can sell direct from Europe, then we should be able to keep the
price in Europe strictly in line with the US price. However technical
support for English would be handled by the US, with us handling
French/Spanish/German/Italian, and as you all know, support costs
to put into place... so all this is currently being discussed. We hope
to bash out agreement by the end of November. *Once* there is an
official agreement we can make an official announcement, not before.
- With the following 2 points now firmly in mind... here was one of our
discussion points. This is *not* policy. We were planning on making
available printed A4 versions of the docs, at on extra charge, to
subscribers who bought through, or who are registered with, FB-Euro.
This may be the eDoc versions, or may be a complete new format,
specially for print (this is in debate). They would be printed out on a
Xerox Docutech machine, and binding - or not - has not yet been discussed.
Now, I'm off to heat up some milk for my daughter.
