Hi Daniel, I thought someone else might see something that I don't, but it appears we all need more info before we can be of any help. Like, how are you creating your "ledges" and characters. It sounds as if you should probably be using gWorlds instead of putting stuff out there and clearing the screen. I suspect it's the refresh cycle that's messing you up, but we really need to know how you're creating your images.
