May I recommend MacLink PLus by DataViz as the way to go in managing
files from DOS, Windows, Word Processing and Spreadsheet formats
of all kinds both cross platform and inter-platform.

It will convert about anything to anything,

No doubt others have been added in more recent updates
The above is for version 10.0 with one update

You can choose an earlier version of a document if you don't have
the more recent application; i.e I still use MS Word 5.1a; any Mac document
sent to me with a later version which wouldn't normally open
for me, I simply convert to version 5. This is what DataViz calls
"Workaround Translations."

MacLink Plus will also decompress documents. Sometimes that
is the only way I have retrieved documents compressed with  a
version of a program I don't have.

MacLink Plus will also correct Creator and File Type on file attachments
that have been zoted by PC type servers,
allow you to view a document, recognize the type etc.

MacLink Plus together with GraphicConverter will convert
just about anything to anything. PC/Mac Exchange  is not
half so simple or useful. What need do I have of anything else. ;=).
This is a drag and drop application
so it couldn't be easier.
