It's surely NOT too late. Your request is a subtle refinement of what we have. And it seems reasonable to approach it after the straightforeward operation is perfect. If anything the trouble comes from that subtlety. FB2 had the feature but there were problems!! Remember the many complaints that were solved by recompiling ab initio. We are in the frustrating position where we have FB^3 compiling several times as fast as FB2 AND taking several times as long to compile even a modest project.
