No offense; I _really_ thought that you'd written the same function I had, with the addition of the file stuff, and thought it was funny. I hadn't seen the question, which was a need for expansion on my function, and was puzzled only because I hadn't sent _my_ function to the list, nor had the original question been to the list, but privately to the person asking the question, so I didn't know where it had come from. Plus Jim'd made a couple changes to the function to make it work, as I'd typed it in Emailer and not tried it, so it wasn't an exact match. It was entirely a matter of timing (and my normal befuddlement) in when email arrived that had me puzzled. Plus the fact that my initial _response_ wasn't intended for the list, but I goofed and _it_ went there too... (If you followed that, you probably also followed the original sequence. I don't even know what I just said, much less what happened. I just know that neither Jim nor John has "offended" in any way.) Any code _I_ write in answer to a question, on-list or off, is "public domain", unless I'm getting paid for it and it belongs to the buyer, or I specifically say it's mine and copyrighted. Anything anyone can do to improve it is welcome. Bill
